Music and Imagination: The Rhythmic Brain
Music Performance & Discussion
Participants: Stephanie Chase & Eric Barnhill
The Philoctetes series Music and Imagination, organized and hosted by Stephanie Chase, violinist and Artistic Director of the Music of the Spheres Society, continues with The Rhythmic Brain. Guest Eric Barnhill will discuss and demonstrate his "Cognitive Eurhythmics" therapy method, which uses games of music and rhythmic movement to enhance attention, coordination, self-expression, and cognition in children with developmental disorders.
Eric Barnhill is a Juilliard-trained pianist whose interest in music therapy stems from his own life experiences with Tourette's Syndrome. Mr. Barnhill teaches cognitive eurhythmics at the Optimum Health and Development Center, Music Therapy Institute, and the Cooke Center for Learning and Development, and teaches children's eurhythmics and theory at the Lucy Moses School, the Special Music School and the Music Conservatory of Westchester.
