David Levy and Metaphysical Jazz
Music Performance & Discussion
Participants: David Levy
David Levy will explore the philosophical implications of his paper, A Metaphysical Construct of Jazz Improvisation. The first part of this event will detail the specifics of this theory. The second part will look specifically at Levy's music in order to uncover a practical application of the philosophical principles outlined. Lastly, Levy will perform some of his music as well as field questions.
David Levy, a Canadian-born multi-instrumentalist, is the founder and leader of the band, Out to Lunch. David is a graduate of New England Conservatory's contemporary improvisation program, and McGill University's jazz and classical performance program. David can be heard as a sideman on Verve Remixed 3 (Universal Records), as well as on the Junior Boys, So This Is Goodbye, and Last Exit (Domino Records). David plays bass clarinet, alto saxophone, bansuri flute and Ableton Live.
